THE INTERNATIONAL PİRİ REİS SYMPOSIUM

The International Piri Reis Symposium was carried out at the Military Museum and Cultural Site Command in Harbiye /Istanbul, between 27 - 29 September 2004, with participation of the Commander of Fleet of Turkish Navy, Vice Admiral Yener KARAHANOGLU.Besides the life, scientific personality and works of the first Turkish nautical cartographer, great Turkish sailor and scientist Piri Reis, history of Turkish seamanship and contemporary Turkish charting was discussed by the participants from allover the world. At the same time, the original works of Piri Reis were displayed at a special exhibition in Topkapı Palace and Piri Reis posters prepared by Major General (Ret.) Cevat Ülkekul were displayed at Harbiye Military Museum. The preparation of symposium booklet is still going on.
