1955 İstanbul doğumlu olan Prof. Dr. Ali Mehmet Celal ŞENGÖR, State University of New York, Albany, A.B.D.’nden, Jeoloji Diploması ile 1978 yılında mezun olmuştur. Jeoloji Yüksek Lisans diplomasını 1979 yılında, Jeoloji alanında Doktora diplomasını ise 1982 yılında yine aynı okuldan almıştır. TÜBİTAK, ESCOM, NATO gibi organizasyonlarda çeşitli görevlerde bulunan Prof. Dr. Ali Mehmet Celal ŞENGÖR, halen İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Maden Mühendisliği Anabilim Dalı’nda Genel Jeoloji Profesörü olarak görev yapmaktadır. Aldığı ödüller sırasıyla, 1984 President’s Award, The Geological Society of London, 1986 Bilim Ödülü, TÜBİTAK, 1988 Docteur honoris causa, Universite de Neuchatel, Faculte des Sciences 1989, Korrespondet der Geologischen Bundesanstalt (Viyana), 1991 Kültür Bakanlığı Bilgi Çağı Ödülü ve I’Ecole Normale Superieure ödülüdür.

Born in 1955 in Istanbul, Prof. Ali Mehmet Celal SENGOR, Ph.D., has got his B.A. degree in State of New York University, Albany, U.S.A., Department of Geology in 1978, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1979 and 1982 respectively on Geology from the same University. After serving for several organizations like TUBITAK, ESCOM, NATO. He is currently working as a General Geology Professor in Istanbul Technical University, Department of Mine Engineering. The awards he earned are as follows: 1984 President’s Award, The Geological Society of London, 1986 Science Award, TÜBİTAK, 1988 Docteur honoris causa, Universite de Neuchatel, Faculte des Sciences, 1989, Korrespondet der Geologischen Bundesanstalt (Viyana), 1991 Ministry of Culture “Information Age” Award and I’Ecole Normale Superieure.
